How sealed bids work on Advicey, and why you never pay us

Firms bid for the chance to talk with you. You see every bid, ordered only by what each firm paid, and you choose. Here is the whole process in five minutes.

Hiring a lawyer · 2026-11-04 · The Advicey team · general information, not legal advice

Most people look for a lawyer by calling one firm after another and waiting for someone to call back. Advicey turns that around. You describe your problem once, and licensed firms come to you.

Step by step

  • You create an account and verify your identity through Stripe. Advicey never sees your ID image.
  • You answer a short form about what happened. We remove your name and contact details before any lawyer sees it.
  • Licensed firms in your state place sealed bids. Each bid shows the firm, its bar-license check, the fee it will charge you, and its own short pitch.
  • You see every bid, ordered by the amount each firm paid for placement. That order is advertising, not a recommendation.
  • You pick one firm, or none. Only the firm you pick gets your contact details.

Who pays what

You never pay Advicey. A firm that is not picked pays nothing. A firm that is picked pays for the introduction, whether or not you decide to hire it. Any fee you pay a lawyer is agreed only between you and that lawyer, in writing.

Every bid shows the most that firm will charge you, so you can compare fees before you talk to anyone. In states where Advicey offers it, Advicey also pays you a bounty from its own funds after you sign with the firm you picked.

What we will never do

We never rate lawyers, never call one "the best," and never sell your information. Read How Ranking Works for the full rule.

Important information

  • Advicey.com is an advertising marketplace. It is not a law firm or a lawyer referral service, and it does not give legal advice.
  • Using Advicey does not create an attorney-client relationship. A relationship exists only if you and a firm sign a retainer.
  • Bid cards and firm profiles are Attorney Advertising. Placement is paid. Advicey does not recommend, rate or endorse any lawyer.
  • No result is promised. Fee amounts, savings figures and examples are illustrations, not predictions. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
  • Availability, fee types and features vary by state. Some states are not open yet.
  • Legal deadlines can be short. If you think you have a claim, talk to a lawyer promptly.
